Bill and Hillary Clinton went to bat for Barack and Joe today in Scranton, PA. The first video is a mash-up of Hillary's speech introducing Joe and a bit of Joe's. Watch it:

I have to say, I love that here we are in October and the rhetoric is as partisan as though it were primary season. This year the Democrats have learned the virtues of turning out the base, not running for the mushy middle and obscuring the differences between the two parties in hopes they'll be acceptable to the most people.

About freakin time.

This exchange on This Week today addressed this most welcome 2008 election phenomenon:

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Both candidates ended up running some version of a turn out the base election. It just so happens that this year the Democratic base is much bigger than the Republican base.

GEORGE WILL: The Republicans do that because it's what they know how to do; the Democrats do it now because it's in their advantage.

PAUL KRUGMAN: I was critical of Obama early on for this notion that we were going to be bi-partisan, it wasn't going to happen...

STEPHANOPOULOS: You wanted a base election...

KRUGMAN: ...and here it is.

This next video is Hillary giving what is becoming the line of her stump speech:

What else is going on?

Huckabee? There's far worse Republicans than Mike Huckabee. Sam Brownback, for instance.

Re: yay for hillary. (2.00 / 4)

There is a real problem with anyone who compares McCain to hitler or kim jong.  Bad is relative and Madonna is not, as usual, helping anyone but herself.

Nor is it particularly valuable to put Obama up there with Ghandi right now.

The whole thing is self indulgent and sort of nauseating.

Good and bad is relative.  A bad U.S. candidate compared to hitler.  I don't think so.  That is just as much rabble rousing as the crap that has been going on in McCain's and Palin's appearances.

not a big fan of this kind of thing (2.00 / 3)

Hitler comparisons are over the top.  Plus "Madonna calls McCain Hitler, Obama Gandhi" is not really good politics for us.  Dem celebrities are so tone-deaf sometimes.  I cringe when Alec Baldwin starts talking politics.  Fortunately nobody cares about this kind of thing this year.

Once you wear a gigantic pointy bra in public, your ability to give respected political commentary becomes somewhat diminished.

it was just commentary by a pop artist. It played well with a LIBERAL NYC CROWD.

For a second I thought she said "America will rise from the asses and the bushes"

I had myself a little giggle.

The American people; they were for the war before they were against it.

Heh (2.00 / 2)

I like how "a Democratic president" has replaced "a Clinton" in that line.  Few politicians can pivot as smoothly as Hillary.

It's brilliant!

Well done Hillary. She certainly has come out of this a very popular politician.

She's doing very well for Obama and the Democratic party. Good on her!

Remember when Obama said (2.00 / 0)

that when Reagan was elected the Republican Party was the party of ideas?  And then he said that if the Democratic Party wants to win elections, they need to be the party of ideas.

While McCain is lurching from one attack to another, one tactic to another, Obama's campaign has presented his ideas for the direction of the country.  Obama has not waivered once in his overall message.  He has been demonstrating he is the candidate who has the ideas.  Lately I've noticed a subtle expansion of that message to include the entire Democratic Party as the party of ideas.

I think it's working.

Democrats have always been the party of ideas (2.00 / 1)

Republicans have been the party of bad ideas and Reagan was just a very effective snake oil salesman.

"ashes of the Bushes", hmm... (none / 0)

Is there a hidden message for Christian Rethuglicans in it? I mean, the burning bush is a well known story in the bible, describing the moment God ordered Mose to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. But the bush where God's words came from wasn't consumed by the flames, of course. So, does "the ashes of the bushes" mean that right wing Christians fell for a false prophecy? This would make sense...

Well, I guess it's only a coincidence, but if those bible thumbing conservatives see a subtle message in it, this can't hurt.

No way, no how, no McCain!
