I suppose it had to happen eventually. All the interest groups that think they had a hand in Obama's win, no matter how significant, are lining up to get the post-election handouts- and aren't going to be subtle about going after 'em. I mean, I expect it from people like Karl Rove, who today credited himself with Obama's win. But NOW- the National Organization for Women? Really?

From across the pond this morning comes a chilling story of the Russo-Georgian conflict this summer- and a realization, if one was needed, on who exactly is in charge of the Russian Republic.
Nicolas Sarkozy saved the President of Georgia from being hanged "by the balls" -- a threat made last summer by Vladimir Putin, according to an account that emerged yesterday from the Élysée Palace.
That's right, folks- when he wasn't busy doing this...

... he was demonstrating clearly exactly who is in charge of the Russian Republic- if any evidence was needed. In the process, though, he may just have provided us with one of the few silver linings to the cloud that is the Bush Administration.

Fresh in from the Washington Post today, we have news that Bobby Jindal, the Republican Governor of Louisiana, was never seriously vetted for the Vice President position. Yes, I know, you're thinking "What, as opposed to Sarah Palin?" Apparently, however, this was done at his request.
The closest contested election in the country right now is hinging on your help.
Right now, we're in the middle of doing final checks on the counts done last night for the race in VA-05. Sound familiar? The home of the xenophobic Virgil Goode. Currently, he's ahead by six votes... but the word is that all absentee ballots are in, and almost none of the provisional ballots cast have been counted yet. Granny Doc and I both reside in this district, and we can tell you- Virgil needs to GO! Already, Virgil is assembling a team of lawyers, ready to throw out as many "unlawful" provisional votes as he needs to remain in the lead.

Have you ever sat down to do your finances, and come up with a negative number?
It's not a fun experience. And certainly not one I'm used to.
It's been a very hectic and exciting year for me. Two days before the close of 2007, I was blessed with the presence of a beautiful baby girl. Things got complicated shortly thereafter as the rift between her mother and I widened; the end result was a family of two for awhile, the baby and I. I had never imagined being a single parent before- hell, I'd never even held a baby before I picked my daughter up, writhing and screaming and covered in gunk- but here I was.
And I never gave it a second thought. Here's why:
If this doesn't convince folks Sarah Palin is psycho, I don't know what will. Here's a recently released portion of unedited footage of the Gibson/Palin interview.

I had the opportunity recently to chat with Tom Periello, the Democrat running for Congress in VA-05. Now, for those of you not familiar with the Commonwealth, Virginia-05 is a district that runs from the North Carolina border almost all the way to the DC exburbs. While it's very diverse, including both the University of Virginia and Martinsville Speedway, it's a very conservative district, including Lynchburg, which is home to Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.
However, Virginia-05 is probably more nationally recognized to the progressive community as the home of this man:

Recognize him? See if this rings a bell:
The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.

Good Christ Almighty, here we go again. Hot off the wire from the Cincinnati Enquirer:
About one-third of the absentee ballot applications received at the Hamilton County Board of Elections have been ruled invalid because Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign printed a version of the form with an extra, unneeded box on it.
Just wait! It gets better!
